Deep Creek Lake CampingNo matter how you camp – cabin, RV, Tent Trailer, or tent – there are facilities for you at Deep Creek, Maryland. Deep Creek Lake is located in Garrett County, Maryland surrounded by the towns of Deer Park, Swanton, and Floyd. The lake is located in the midst of deep forest and 2,500 feet above sea level in Western Maryland’s Appalachian Mountains. At nearly 6 square miles in size, with 65 miles of shoreline, it is the largest lake in Maryland.

A number of private camp grounds offer amenities for trailers, RVs or tenting. You can reserve spaces in two Maryland state parks, Deep Creek Lake State Park and Swallow Falls State Park…with Blackwater State Park, across the West Virginia state line. These parks offer a wide range of camping options including mini-cabins, shelters, tent spaces and yurts. They also offer a variety of tourist opportunities. For state park camping spaces, make reservations early.

Deep Creek, Maryland boasts one of two Olympic style whitewater courses in the United States. You and your family can enjoy whitewater rafting or canoeing in a safely controlled environment. Mountain biking, rock climbing and hiking are also very popular. Additionally, you can enjoy hunting, fishing, swimming, golfing, boating and touring in this historic, former coal mining center. You can visit the antique shops and crafts shops. A microbrewery and winery, not far away, are open for tours.

Deep Creek Lake CampingDeep Creek State Park contains a mile of shoreline along Deep Creek Lake. Visitors launch their boats from the park. The sandy beaches are perfect for family swims. The picnic area provides shade and shelter for picnics. Swallow Falls State Park includes the beautiful 53 foot waterfall surrounded by spectacular rock formations. Blackwater State Park is named for the dramatic five story Blackwater River Falls, where the muddy Blackwater River crashes to the base of an eight mile long gorge, making its journey to the Atlantic.

The Deep Creek area offers recreation for all seasons. Cabins and heated shelters are available for winter camping. Many enjoy ice fishing on the lake in Winter. Skiers and snowboarders enjoy the nearby Wisp resort. You might also try snow tubing through the 800 foot snow tubing lanes at the snow tubing park or sledding and tobogganing on the sled runs.

Deep Creek Lake is centrally located in the Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia tri-state area. It is under 200 highway miles from Baltimore, Washington, DC, Charleston, West Virginia, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
